The cost of underwritting older mothers parenting decisons

I found this article somewhat pretentious on a number of levels - given the WAINWRIGHT families peripatetic status within the Canadian music firmament (father, Louden III; mom, Anna MCGARRIGLE and brother Rufus). I mean they are world recognized stars who travel the globe but "we consider them Canadians".

Now, Martha is still in her late 20's I believe, so maybe the premature birth was more related to her frenetic work schedule or perhaps due to some poor lifestyle choices as a musician.  Irregardless it seems unusual that she would have a premature birth at her age.

Still, given that - maybe we should be grateful that the NHS took her in and delivered their child and from the sounds of it - did an excellent job.  According to this article the number of premature babies is growing fast - now 48,000 or 7% of all live births - and cost an extra £1bn to the UK Health Service each year.

So - Thanks alot Martha - good job.  We all look forward to little Arcangelo growing up with both of you involved in his life, surrounded by a wonderful, diverse extended family!
